VA Aid & Attendance for Arizona Senior Living
VA Aid & Attendance is a pension benefit that can meaningfully offset the cost of assisted living or memory care for wartime veterans and their surviving spouses. Many eligible families don't apply because they don't realize they qualify.
Who typically qualifies
Wartime veterans who served at least 90 days of active duty, with at least one day during a defined wartime period.
Discharged under conditions other than dishonorable.
Surviving spouses of eligible veterans may also qualify.
The applicant must need help with activities of daily living, or meet other clinical criteria.
How the benefit typically fits with assisted living
Aid & Attendance is paid to the veteran or surviving spouse, not the community. Families use it toward monthly rent and care.
It stacks with private pay, LTC insurance, and other income sources — it does not replace them for most families.
It generally cannot be combined with ALTCS in the same month.
