Does Medicare Pay for Assisted Living in Arizona?

Does Medicare Pay for Assisted Living in Arizona?

The short answer disappoints many families: Medicare generally does not pay for long-term room and board in assisted living. But Medicare does cover meaningful pieces around the edges — and Arizona has other programs that may help.

    What Medicare does cover

Short-term skilled nursing (up to 100 days) after a qualifying inpatient hospital stay.

Home health services when the person is homebound and needs skilled care.

Hospice services under the Medicare Hospice Benefit — often available inside an assisted living or memory care setting.

Doctor visits, prescriptions (Part D), and durable medical equipment — regardless of where the person lives.

    What Medicare does not cover

    Assisted living room and board.

    Memory care room and board.

Long-term custodial care in any residential setting.

This is where ALTCS, VA benefits, LTC insurance, and private pay usually come in.

We tour with you, ask the hard questions, and help your family compare options across Scottsdale, Phoenix, Paradise Valley, and Fountain Hills. We lean toward smaller residential assisted living (RAL) homes when they're the right fit — but we'll guide you through any setting, including larger assisted living, memory care, or independent living.
