Nursing: A Career Journey of Compassion and Growth

From medical assistant to BSN honors graduate, MSN with a 4.0 GPA, IBCLC, OB educator, and quality management specialist — one nurse's career journey and why she now coaches others.

    A Healthcare Journey Begins

I'm a passionate healthcare professional with over 10 years of experience in the industry. My journey in healthcare began as a medical assistant, where I quickly realized my desire for further education and growth. In 2014, I discovered West Coast University (WCU), a renowned institution that became the cornerstone of my professional development.

    Balancing Education and Motherhood

I embarked on the BSN program at WCU and embraced the challenge of balancing my studies with my personal life. During this time, I initiated the first student-led mentor program at the Ontario campus, a testament to my commitment to fostering support and mentorship within the nursing community. Despite the demands of my academic pursuits, I welcomed the arrival of my second daughter and even graduated from the program while five months pregnant with my third daughter. I firmly believed that my life shouldn't be put on hold during my educational journey, and I found a way to strike a harmonious balance between my roles as a student and a mother.

    Advanced Education and Clinical Excellence

In 2017, I graduated from the BSN program with honors, opening doors to multiple job opportunities. I accepted positions as a school nurse and an inpatient obstetrics (OB) RN, allowing me to gain diverse clinical experiences. Motivated by my passion for lifelong learning and professional advancement, I embarked on the master's program at WCU in 2018. Simultaneously, I pursued additional certification as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). In 2019, I proudly graduated from both programs with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

    Teaching, Leading, and Coaching

Equipped with my comprehensive education and expertise, I became a proficient OB educator, teaching various classes within my organization. Recognizing my aptitude for teaching and passion for quality improvement, I was offered a position in Quality Management, where I thrived in a clinic setting, sharing my knowledge and empowering fellow healthcare professionals.

Through my own experiences, I understand the unique challenges and rewards that nurses face throughout their careers.
