A First Breastfeeding Experience
My name is Megan, and I am the driving force behind this business. With over a decade of personal breastfeeding experience and a passion for empowering new parents, I am dedicated to providing compassionate and knowledgeable lactation consulting services.
I want to tell you a little bit about my own breastfeeding experience first. My own breastfeeding journey began over 10 years ago when I embarked on the beautiful and transformative experience of nourishing my first child. I had a pretty easy pregnancy and even labor and delivery an uncomplicated. I thought breastfeeding would be the same. I had a visual of a mother and baby peacefully breastfeeding without complications immediately following delivery. Boy, was that visual WRONG. Breastfeeding was uncomfortable. I found myself struggling with how to feed and even how to hold my daughter. It was very painful and by the second day at the hospital, my breasts were engorged, cracked, and bleeding, my daughter was losing too much weight, she had jaundice and the doctor was thinking about admitting her to the NICU, and my own personal well-being was not being considered by anyone. A lactation nurse came into my room the later that day, introduced herself, and immediately grabbed my sore swollen breasts and shoved it in my baby’s mouth (ouch)! It was not a comfortable situation for me, but she did inform me that my daughter had a tongue tie and a lip tie. She expressed my breast milk and it nearly shot across the room. She encouraged me to continue breastfeeding and that everything was going to be ok. It was around that time that I knew I wanted to be that for someone else.
The bond and benefits I discovered through breastfeeding inspired me to continue this journey with my two subsequent children, ultimately breastfeeding each of them for at least 2 years. These personal experiences ignited a deep passion within me to support and educate other parents on their breastfeeding journeys.
To enhance my expertise in the field, I pursued a career in healthcare. I initially trained as a medical assistant, but I quickly realized that my true calling lay in assisting new mothers and their infants. This led me to pursue further education and become a registered nurse, specializing in the mother-baby unit. Working directly with new moms and witnessing their unique breastfeeding challenges and triumphs reaffirmed my commitment to providing professional support and guidance in this area.
Driven by a desire to expand my knowledge and skills, I pursued additional certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). This prestigious credential represents the highest level of lactation expertise and allows me to offer evidence-based care, personalized solutions, and unwavering support to families seeking assistance with breastfeeding.
